The lower flowers will form seed pods while the upper flowers continue to grow and bloom. Plants self sow often. Cardinal flower grows native along streambeds all over the Southern United States and is a real treasure in the garden by providing one of the truest reds available. Is thrives in areas where other perennials would rot and adds bold color to shady corners of the garden.

  2. I can't wait to plant cardinal flower in my butterfly garden. I like that it's a taller part shade plant. Most of what I planted in part shade is pretty low.
