Zone 3 Flowers: Scabiosa (Pincushion Flower)


  


Description: Distinctive textures and flower petals have vivid colors, crimson, blues, lavenders, pinks and even yellow, creating a nice effect when planted in groups

Hardy: Zone 3

Bloom Time: Early summer - fall

Height: 12''-18''

Spacing: 1-2 feet

Sun Needs: Full sun to part shade

Water Needs: Medium, doesn't like to be over watered

Outstanding Features: Loved by bees and butterflies, Scabiosa is easy to grow and makes a wonderful cut flower.

Uses: Cut flowers

Tips: It does not do well with long hot summers, but is great in the north and Midwest. Divide every few years. Deadhead to encourage additional bloom.

Propagation: Sow seed in containers in a cold frame in spring or as soon as ripe. Divide plants or take cuttings in spring.
