Zone 3 Flowering Ground Cover: Foamflower (Tiarella cordifolia)


Description: Foamflower (Tiarella cordifolia) is a shade-loving perennial native to the eastern United States and Canada. This small, evergreen, mounding or running groundcover has been underutilized in the home landscape.

Hardy: Zone 3

Bloom Time: Late spring- late summer (depending on variety) 

Height: 1 - 3 feet (depending on variety)

Spacing: 12''- 20'' (they can grow from 6''-12'' wide per plant)

Sun Needs: Part to full shade 

Water Needs: Medium, can tolerate wet soil


Outstanding Features: Flowers, Attractive Foliage, Fragrant, Fall Color, Winter Interest, Cut Flowers, Attracts Birds, Attracts Butterflies, Tolerates Wet Soil, Easy to Grow

Uses: Look great with hostas, ferns, and other shade loving plants and in container gardens. Also good for boarder gardens and for ground cover.

Tips: Plant with Japanese painted fern, Phlox, Salomon's Seal, Blue bells for a great look.
